Back in the championship at 43, having last played in 2011. Now a Slovakian citizen, having switched from South Africa to the home country of his wife and stepson.
Was one of three joint runners-up behind Zach Johnson in the 2007 Masters, his only top 10 finish in nearly 50 major appearances. That same season he reached No 8 in the world and recorded his fourth PGA Tour success by beating Bernhard Langer and Jim Furyk in a play-off for the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. Further wins on the circuit came at the Byron Nelson Championship in 2009 and Honda Classic in 2011, but two years ago he was down at 500th in the world before mounting a comeback.
In the last two months alone he has come joint fifth in the AT&T Byron Nelson, joint sixth at the Charles Schwab Challenge and joint third at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, lifting him to 84th on the rankings in time to be called into the Royal Portrush field when Kevin Na withdrew injured on July 11. Played in six World Cups for South Africa, winning with Trevor Immelman at Kiawah Island in 2003, and has one Presidents Cup cap.
